Subsequently, she joined the Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician at the Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit. Awdish received a Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) from the Wayne State University Medical School in 2002 where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, after which she moved to the New York to complete her training at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in Manhattan. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is best known for her critically acclaimed, bestselling book In Shock: My Journey from Death to Recovery and the Redemptive Power of Hope.
